Barney McManigal is a journalist, scholar, and storyteller. A graduate of UC Berkeley, he began his journalism career as a researcher for the PBS NewsHour, before becoming a Washington, DC, correspondent for the Denver Post, and a political reporter for the Santa Barbara News-Press. McManigal later earned a doctorate in political science from Oxford University, focusing on the politics of emerging technology. He has served as a political science lecturer at Oxford, and a UK government policy advisor for energy and climate change. More recently, McManigal has worked with public health researchers in Oxford and Seattle to publish the first comprehensive estimate of global antibiotic resistance. He lives in Oxford, UK. McManigal’s work has appeared in the Lancet, Denver Post, Roll Call, and many other publications.
